Athlone Service Station Wins Top Toilet Award

13th February 2008
ATHLONE SERVICE STATION WINS TOP TOILET AWARD

Kevin O’Brien and his team at the Maxol Service Station, Dublin Rd, Athlone have reason to smile as they have been named as the winner’s of the Top Toilet Award in Maxol’s Retail Business Awards.  The station’s staff members shared a €1,000 prize.  The presentation was made recently at Maxol's annual retail conference held in the Athlone Springs Hotel.

Maxol introduced the Top Toilet Hygiene Award.category to its prestigious Retail Business Awards scheme in June 2007 in response to the increased numbers of customers using its stations as rest stops when purchasing fuel, ‘food to go’ and convenience shopping.   Hygienic away-from-home toilet provision is just one of the many public services that Maxol provides its customers on a day to day basis. As the car population increases along with tourists visiting Ireland it is vitally important that we do not detract from the overall retail offering through a lack on focus on wash room / toilet facilities. This award promotes best practice and management in relation to ongoing toilet standards on our forecourts and makes sure that the cleanliness of our washrooms is of a high standard.

The Maxol Awards are run on a quarterly basis and form part of Maxol’s Retail Business Awards scheme, which promotes and rewards excellence in retail standards and customer care throughout its network of service stations.  The awards, now in their 15th year, are organised and run by Maxol’s head office, and incorporate almost 150 Maxol service stations in both the North and South of the country.  Judging for the Awards was conducted via formal inspections by Maxol senior management at participating Maxol stations over the four quarters from April 2006 to March 2007.  In addition an independent agency conducted four rounds of mystery shopper visits to assess the quality of service offered to customers.
