Maxol Announces Sponsorship of Kildare Hurling Championships

Maxol, one of Ireland’s leading oil company’s, is to be the title sponsor of the Kildare Hurling Championships for the next 3 years. The Kildare Hurling Championships, which have been running for 114 years, began in 1888 and will now be known as ‘The Maxol Hurling Championships’.

Commencing from June 2002, Maxol’s sponsorship of the Hurling Championships extends to all levels of the game and includes 54 teams from Senior to Minor B. As part of the sponsorship the company are also delighted to introduce the ‘Maxol Player of the Championships’ Award as an added player incentive. The Award will involve A panel of judges made up of a representative from Maxol and the local sports journalists in Kildare selecting the best performing player in each championship level.

Commenting on the sponsorship at the official launch on Friday 16th in Leixlip GAA Club, Fergal Harrington, Brand Development Manager with the Maxol Group said:

"Maxol receives such excellent support from the motoring public in Kildare and we are delighted to be able to put something back by way of sponsoring the Kildare Hurling Championships. As a local company with over 350 service stations in Ireland, the continued support of major events such as this is an important part of Maxol's investment in the local community. We would hope that through the sponsorship we are helping in some way towards the promotion of the game and help Kildare hurling teams to compete against the best."

Also commenting on the new sponsorship deal, Andrew O’Sullivan, Chairman of Kildare County Board added:

“We are delighted to have gained sponsorship from an Irish family owned business such as Maxol and look forward to sharing with them the excitement that hurling generates among our many Kildare supporters over the next three years.”
