MAXOL IRISH MOTOR INDUSTRY PERSON OF THE YEAR ANNOUNCED
Bill Cullen Bill Cullen, Chairman of the Glencullen Group, which holds the Renault Ireland franchise was named today (27th November) as this year’s Maxol Irish Motor Industry Person of the Year at an awards ceremony in Dublin.
Minister of State, Martin Cullen, at the Department of Finance with special responsibility for the Office of Public Works presented the award to Bill Cullen for his outstanding contribution as Chairman of the Children’s Hour Project, which raised millions for disadvantaged Irish children.
The initiative encouraged people to give their last hour’s salary on the eve of the new millennium to the fund. The venture was a huge success, generating over £4 million for Irish children’s charities. The idea was successfully copied in 23 other countries.
There were ten nominees for this year’s awards, which are run in association with Irish Motor Industry Magazine. The awards recognise the contribution that key Irish motor industry individuals have made both to the industry and beyond - whether it be their to local community or internationally. Now in its third year, last year’s winner was Eddie Jordan, founder and owner of the first Irish Formula One Grand Prix Team.
Commenting at the awards ceremony, Tom Noonan, Chief Executive, The Maxol Group said:

Mr. Paul O’Grady, Managing Editor of Irish Motor Industry Magazine was also speaking at the awards ceremony and commented:

The judges for this years Maxol Irish Motor Industry Person of the Year Awards included Andrew Hamilton, Motoring Editor of The Irish Times; Cyril McHugh, Chief Executive of SIMI; Brian Murphy, Past President of SIMI and Managing Director of Belgard Motors, and Paul O’Grady, Managing Editor of Irish Motor Industry Magazine.
