Leading forecourt and convenience retailer Maxol today announced the renewal of its sponsorship of Ulster Mini Rugby for the next two seasons, with the first Mini Rugby Festival kicking off on the 10th October at Clogher Valley in County Tyrone.
Ulster Mini Rugby is an opportunity for both boys and girls aged 6-12 to gain their first tastes of the sport and begin to learn the basic skills. Those taking part will have the opportunity to meet local rugby legends while taking part in touch rugby and fun activities to help them further their sporting skills along with getting to know its great values and traditions.
Around 1500 children from over 40 local rugby clubs and 32 primary schools from across Ulster are expected to take part in this season’s events.
For nearly a century, Maxol has been a vital part of local life in Northern Ireland, whether that’s through fuelling people’s lives or supporting local initiatives across its network of convenience destinations. The company first supported Ulster Mini Rugby in 2013 and has renewed its sponsorship for a further two years as part of its ongoing investment in local communities.
Brian Donaldson, Group General Manager of the Maxol Group, said: “As a family owned business that lies at the heart of the Northern Ireland community, this sponsorship enables us and our retailers to support the growth of rugby at grassroots level and to help encourage young people to develop an interest in the sport. It also means we can give something back to communities who have supported Maxol over the years.
“We’re delighted to partner with Ulster Rugby who are deeply committed to bringing the sport to a new generation of potential players. Thousands of young rugby hopefuls will be able to meet stars of the Ulster Rugby squad at a range of Mini Rugby Festivals between now and next spring.”
The renewal was welcomed by Phillip Polack, Business Development Manager of Ulster Rugby, who said: “Mini rugby is one of the fastest growing areas of our game, with thousands of young players togging out at clubs across the Province each Saturday. The Maxol mini rugby programme is a great opportunity to bring many of our clubs and schools together, allowing players to develop their skills against different opposition. These events are greatly enhanced by the presence of members from the Ulster Rugby squad, who provide some useful tips to the budding players.”
