Maxol, the Irish family-owned forecourt retailer is delighted to announce, Liam Wall, licensee of Maxol Service Station Tipperary, the winner of its first All-Ireland Community Action Awards. Maxol's Community Action Awards were launched in October 2013 as part of its overall brand identity, which seeks to position the fuel retailer at the heart of local communities across the island of Ireland. The awards are designed to help Maxol's network of retailers build even closer relationships with their respective communities by championing a worthy local initiative. Liam Wall's nominated project urged support for Circle of Friends Cancer Support Centre, in Tipperary town, a drop in centre providing respite and counseling services to cancer patients and their families.

Speaking about his reason for choosing Circle of Friends Cancer Support Centre as his nominated cause, Liam Wall commented, "We chose Circle of Friends Cancer Support Centre as it is a start-up project and its founder Jennifer Jones is a cancer sufferer herself. Jennifer explained to us how up to now she has had to travel almost three hours to Cork to avail of a cancer support service. It was the success of the Cork centre that inspired her to start this similar project in Tipperary. The centre opened on 19th December so it is still in its infancy. We plan to develop the services so that it reduces the need for more patients to travel long distances for a similar facility. We are absolutely delighted to support Jennifer and her team and look forward to handing over €4,500 in funding. Circle of Friends has given us and our staff in Maxol Tipperary a fresh awareness of community activity and a real appreciation for the need to support local initiatives. We wish Circle of Friends every success in all their vital work with cancer sufferers and their families."

Maxol COO, Brian Donaldson explains the reason behind establishing this new Community Action Awards programme, "Maxol is owned by the McMullan family and our business model is strongly guided by the family ethos in everything we do. We believe business has an obligation to be a positive force in the community, and this initiative was to help our retailers identify and support a worthwhile local cause. It's not just about handing over money, it is much more than that, by our retailers and their staff being actively involved in local projects, long lasting relationships are created that promote greater loyalty and alliances between Maxol, its retailers and each community in which we offer services. The Community Action Initiative is an excellent opportunity to support our retailers in positioning their business 'At the heart of it' in their community. The success from this year's scheme has been tremendous with over €14,500 awarded to worth while causes in Ireland. In 2014 we will be running a similar community awards programme"
