Monday, 23rd September, following The Maxol Groups' announcement earlier this year to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation as their charity partner, six brave Maxol employees took part in a sponsored skydive to raise funds and support the charity. Skydive for Wishes, took place on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd September at The Tandem Skydive Club at Abbeyshrule Aerodome in Co. Longford. The six Maxol participants who fundraised for the event include: Tracey McEvoy, Purchasing Supervisor, Karen McGrath, Accounts Payable, Andrew Gregory, Depot Administrator, Cliona Malone, Sales & Marketing Administrator, Andrew Jackson, IT Contractor and Owen O'Neill, General Manager, Maxol Lubricants. A total of 65 participants from all over Ireland took part in the two day event.
Despite the best intentions of all Maxol participants who travelled long distances from Co. Dublin, Louth and Down to arrive in Abbeyshrule on time, heavy cloud cover on Saturday delayed the planned schedule of activity which meant that only Cliona Malone and Andrew Gregory completed their skydive late that afternoon. Demonstrating their level of commitment to the cause, both Tracey Mc Evoy and Owen O'Neill returned back to Abbeyshrule from Dublin and Louth respectively early on Sunday morning to complete their skydive. While Karen Mc Grath and Andrew Jackson did not get the opportunity to see the challenge through on this occasion both candidates will be rebooking their skydive in the near future.
Speaking about the event, participant and General Manager, Maxol Lubricants Owen O'Neill commented, "unfortunately the weather disrupted the schedule over the two days and it is disappointing that Karen and Andrew will not get a chance to do their skydive this weekend as planned. However, that is the reality of taking part in an event that is weather dependent. I am glad to say that all the waiting and returning back to Abbeyshrule from Louth on Sunday was worth it for the thrill and excitement of the skydive. It was a remarkable experience and one that will provide a lifelong memory".
CEO of The Maxol Group, Tom Noonan visited Abbeyshrule on Saturday to support team Maxol. Commenting on the day's proceedings he said, "We are immensely proud of each Maxol representative who has taken part in this unique fundraising event. Despite their busy work schedules each of the six participants have all given up their time to fundraise over the past three weeks and set aside a weekend for Make-A-Wish Ireland. It takes real courage and bravery to see through a challenge such as this, albeit for a very worthy cause".
Make-A-Wish Ireland grants the wishes of children aged between 3 and 17 years living with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. A wish granted is true magic for the child, providing respite from their normal routines of hospitals, doctors and treatment.
