MAXOL ANNOUNCES €7M INVESTMENT PROGRAMME AS LOCKDOWN LIFTS

Forecourt network in Ireland to undergo extensive development

July 2021: Maxol, Ireland’s largest family-owned forecourt and convenience retailer, has announced an extensive, multimillion euro investment programme for its forecourt network in Ireland. With construction work underway once again as lockdown restrictions ease, Maxol has kick-started a €7M 2021 investment programme, and is committed to playing its part in helping to rebuild the local economy.

Today’s announcement relates to a substantial investment of more than €1M each for the refurbishment of two high-profile sites: Maxol Ballycoolin, Dublin and Maxol Riverside in Navan.  Works will begin on the Ballycoolin site in June and will include a new Maxol Deli and also one of the largest fast-food chains in the world, Burger King, with a drive thru for customers on the go.   The site will also undergo a refurbishment of the existing ground floor seating area, a new customer seating area for twenty-four on the first floor, bringing the overall seating capacity to ninety-nine, twenty additional car parking spaces and a rebrand of the car wash facility.  On the forecourt two additional premium fuel pumps will be installed to offer premium fuel to customers at every pump.  The external seating area will benefit from additional benches, screens, lighting, and umbrellas, to enable COVID friendly outside seating alternatives.

In Maxol Riverside, the shop is being extended with thirty-two square metres of additional retail space, improving the overall grocery offering in-store and provides for a larger new Maxol deli, a new customer seating area that accommodates up twenty-two people, an additional 4 car parking spaces, a new off licence, and a new brush car wash.  On the forecourt, customers will be able to fill up with Maxol Premium fuel which contains deposit control additives that reduce build up in your engine and improves power and acceleration. As part of our carbon neutral programme, carbon emissions are 100% offset which means customers get better value with every fill.  Premium artisan burger brand Boss Burger will open at the site offering tasty burgers, chicken goujons and wings, fully loaded potato fries as well as a number of side dishes.

The company recently invested €3M in Maxol Newbridge, which saw the Kildare service station transformed with an extensive upgrade to the forecourt, including a seating area for forty-two people, a new Maxol Deli and The Rotisserie with a range of healthy food menu options available, Maxol’s exclusive ROSA coffee, plus a wide choice of competitively priced grocery essentials, including Maxol’s own-label range.  Maxol Newbridge also welcomed the opening of the company’s first drive thru Burger King.

Work will also start at a number of Maxol service stations across the country and depending on the site and will include shop extensions, premium fuel, additional car parking spaces, new food franchises, Maxol Deli upgrades, drive thru Burger Kings and car wash upgrades.

Maxol commenced its 4 year investment programme in 2017, the aim of which was to transform service station facilities right across the country and roll out the brand’s new look in-store design and exclusive coffee brand, ROSA Coffee. Since 2012, Maxol has invested over €220M in its 236-strong network across Ireland and is already planning a major investment programme for 2022.

A fourth-generation business that has just celebrated its centenary milestone of 100 years in business the announcement today reaffirms Maxol’s position of continuous investment in site developments and as the number one family-owned convenience forecourt retailer in Ireland.

Speaking about the investment programme, Brian Donaldson, CEO The Maxol Group said, “Much like last year, 2021 hasn’t been quite the year we had planned for. Our investment programme in Ireland came to a halt on several occasions due to the pandemic, but we remain committed to our plans and it is great to be back on track and looking ahead to the future with confidence.

“The past ten years has seen us transition from being a fuel centric brand to become one that is more known for our food offering.  To achieve this, we have been redeveloping existing service stations by introducing more eat-in and seating areas, together with family friendly spaces, wherever possible.”

“We are future proofing our business in line with our customers’ needs and because so many of our stores are located in local communities, they have become food destinations and a first-choice option for competitively priced groceries and essential everyday items.”

“We are a family-owned business that is continuing to evolve and transform, taking all of our learnings from the last 100 years to provide quality services and excellent value to our customers.”
